Information Technology Summary

The course provides opportunity to develop skills requested by employers in today’s modern computer driven based society. It gives students the opportunity to develop both academic and vocational IT skills rolled into one to enable success, lifelong learning and development progressing to working within the wide quickly developing IT Technology driven world we all live in. 

This course will lead students for further learning or training while developing essential knowledge in a number of key areas within ICT, including website development, social media use development within business, management of data, how to keep businesses and individuals safe within the modern-day arena. 

You will develop a good understanding of IT technologies ethical use of computers and the impact on the environment through to modern day technology, designed to help stroke assist those that need support to learning about businesses use of effective management of data balanced with the creative ambition to develop games orientated websites and social media campaigns.

How you will study

Information communication technology is studied by completing practical based learning linked to real life examples, understanding the ways in which computers and their systems work and how they have developed. Creating practical websites and social media posts and campaign developments, looking at other people’s ideas, designs seeing how they have been successful or not and then being creative to develop your own solutions practically with two different tailored design solutions. 

Component breakdown

Unit 1 – Written Exam, Information Technology Systems (120 GLH) 

  • You will study the relationships between hardware and software, full moon IT system and the way systems work individually and together as well as the relationship between the user and the system. 
  • you will examine issues related to the use of IT systems and the impact they have on organisations and individuals from performance to the dangers of malware and social engineering. 

Unit 2 – Practical Exam, Creating Systems to Manage Information (90 GLH) 

  • You will study different ways to create systems to manage information leading students to complete tasks, to design, create, test and evaluate a relational database system that manages information. 
  • Students will complete the task using knowledge and understanding from their studies of the sector and apply both transferable and specialist, knowledge and skills. 
  • This links to the smallest in house system to stock control to large online retailers’ databases that are so significant in organisational operating requirements. 

Unit 3 – Coursework, Using social media in Businesses (90 GLH) 

  • You will explore how businesses use social media to promote their products and services, students implement their own social media activities into a business setting. 
  • You will see how the modern way of life, for sharing information with family and friends  gives businesses the opportunity to interact with people and promote their products and services on social media websites. 
  • You will explore different social media websites and find potential benefits and pitfalls while developing your own social media strategies for business of your choosing to achieve specific aims on objectives bringing in knowledge from your other area of study interests and ambitions. 

Unit 6 – Coursework, Website Development (60 GLH) 

  • You will study overall website development, overall design and effectiveness of websites, different languages used in website development and understand sophisticated psychological techniques used to capture users’ interest. 
  • You will review existing websites, evaluate overall design and effectiveness, reflect on the design and functionality and go through the steps of design development testing and reviewing of your own website.
