How you will study

This is an introduction to a variety of experiences exploring a range of art techniques, analysis and evaluation. A six week skills workshop will lead into a themed project of your choosing, developing ideas and use of materials. There will be a focus on improving observational skills to a high standard alongside evaluating and analysing the work of other artists. This will then lead into the professional portfolio in year 13.

Component breakdown

Component 1: (60%) Coursework. Students are able to acquire their own skills and create ideas in the areas they most enjoy. This ultimately leads to more independent creative, analytical and evaluative development in the form of a personal themed project. This component also requires students to produce an extended essay of between 1000 and 3000 words that supports the ideas developed within the practical work.

Component 2: (40%) Examination. The externally set assignment required students to produce a unit of work responding to a question set by the exam board. Students will receive an exam paper with a choice of questions. At the end of the exam prep period students complete a 15 hour controlled assessment. The unit of work is marked alongside the 15 hours of independent supervised study.
