Learning Support

We want every student to be the best they can be. That’s why we have an expert team of Sixth Form Form Tutors and first class SEND provision. They’re here so everyone can get the help needed to study successfully.

The Manor Academy is an inclusive school. We believe that all students are entitled to an outstanding education and try to ensure that all individual needs are met and all barriers to learning are removed. We use a Pupil Passport system to support teachers with Quality First Teaching and to help them meet the needs of individuals in their class. Further to this we operate a mentoring system and provide extra intervention where necessary.

The SEND team are dedicated and caring and support students with additional needs to succeed across the Academy:

Inclusion

Every child is unique in terms of their interests, abilities, motivation and learning needs. At Manor we take into account these wide individual characteristics, and we try to ensure that those with exceptional learning needs and/or disabilities are fully included and have access to high quality and appropriate education. We believe that every child should be given the opportunity to achieve their potential in learning. Students with special educational needs (SEN) are fully included in all aspects of school life.

Students with identified learning difficulties receive extra help which can be:

  • “In-class” support, allowing students to access the curriculum alongside their peers.
  • In small groups, for catch-up work in literacy, numeracy skills, social behaviour etc…
  • Progress is continually monitored and appropriate individual development goals are set.

Special Consideration

Students with learning difficulties are tested and some will have help to access their exams. Students may have the opportunity to use the support of a reader and/or scribe or extra time. Those who qualify for special concessions work closely with staff to practise and gain experience to get maximum benefit in their final examinations.

At Manor we recognise that people, situations and circumstances often need to be treated individually ensuring that all students are ready to learn, can access the curriculum and can make outstanding progress.
