Our careers lead Suzanne Moore organises opportunities for all our students throughout their time in the sixth form. This involves university visits and support with UCAS application system as well as the higher level apprenticeships and future employment.

As part of our ongoing support and guidance we use tutor time and one-to-one meetings to support the students through their UCAS applications. To add to this, we have developed strong partnerships with both local universities and employers to deliver assemblies and workshops about UCAS, university life, student finance and entrance exams.

Alongside this, we have also built a package for students considering applying for higher apprenticeships. Our careers team have bought in employers that are using the apprenticeship programme to enhance their workforce to deliver assemblies and follow up support. Our school careers advisor organises such events whilst also supporting students who are unsure about their next steps by having one-to-one guidance meetings.

At Manor we also value giving the students the opportunity to experience the world of work in their chosen career path. At the end of year 12 we invite all students to source and take part in work experience of their choosing. This not only allows students to confirm their aspirations but also gives extra evidence for personal statements and references.

There are those students who know exactly what they’d like to do after leaving Manor College. For others, deciding what to do next can be a difficult decision. We will support you in making that all-important decision and give you the guidance you need to succeed. Your decisions about your future will be supported by your tutor, the Head of Sixth Form and a Careers Adviser who is on hand in the Manor College base.

University

At Manor College, we will do everything in our power to ensure that your entry to higher education is facilitated. We hold regular UCAS workshops for students to get support with their personal statements and university applications. We organise presentations from, and visits to, universities to ensure our students are well informed and confident about their choice educational institution. There will be a visit to the UCAS fair, where all the major universities in the country will be represented, and there are presentations for students and parents on student finance and practical elements of “surviving university”.

Apprenticeship

If you choose to go on to an Apprenticeship, you will get the chance to learn hands-on skills, earn money and gain qualifications such as an NVQ, Functional Skills and a technical certificate. We will also support you if you choose to pursue a Degree Level Apprenticeship, where an employer will sponsor you through university. We can give you guidance about which business sector best suits your skills and help you find the right apprenticeship for you, as well offering guidance and support with your applications. There are visits to the National Apprenticeships Fair, presentations on how to get an apprenticeship and visits from local employers such as Rolls Royce.

Employment

If you’re hoping to go straight into full-time employment after Manor College, we will help you tailor your skills and guide you in the right direction to finding a job you’ll love. Manor College offers a number of workshops where students can build and improve their CVs, practise their interview skills and get help and advice when completing job applications.
